25 PLWDs Receive Training in Soap Making

The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development (SWCD) at the La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Assembly, has organized a one day training programme in soap making for 25 Persons Living With Disability (PLWDs), on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at the Assembly hall.

The idea behind the training was to equip the beneficiaries with the requisite skills in soap making so they could produce on large scale and eventually become self-employed, in order not to depend on relatives or society all the time.

Speaking at the training programme, the Director for SWCD, Mrs Hanna Aimee Adzei said, she was happy with the concept by the Department which focuses on empowering PLWDs to earn a source of livelihood instead of giving them cash.

She noted that disability should not connote inability and therefore persons who had difficulties in whatever form should be able to use their brains and in-built skills to do something for themselves. On that note, Mrs Adzei appealed to government and the Assembly to continue to empower the Department to enable them embark upon a lot more of such interventions.

One of the beneficiaries, Georgina Akyeabea expressed her profound appreciation for the initiative by the Department and recounted how the training was going to better her life and colleagues. She therefore made an appeal to her colleague beneficiaries to take the training seriously so that they could put into practice the skills they had acquired for a better life.

According to the programme organisers, each beneficiary would receive various ingredients for soap making.
