Mrs. Jennifer Dede Adjabeng, the Municipal Chief Executive of La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly on Tuesday 17 January 2022 held a meeting with revenue collectors at the Assembly to deliberate on ways to improve revenue generation for the Municipality.
The meeting also highlighted on the main challenges and specific heddles of revenue collection in the municipality.
Addressing the meeting, Mrs. Adjabeng explained to the revenue officers that their work is backed by laws, the Local Governance Act, an Act gives them the legal power and protection to collect revenue for the Assembly.
She therefore urged the collectors to step up their work to ensure that the Assembly meets its revenue target. In order to achieve that, the MCE tasked the collectors to work hard at improving on inter personal relationship with the clients (rate payers) by communicating effectively and avoiding confrontations.
Adding that “even though officers have the legal backing and power, they should guard against the tendency to intimidate clients”.
The MCE admonished them to be good ambassadors of the Assembly in the course of discharging their duties by putting up good character as they work hard to meet their respective revenue targets. She disclosed that collectors who exceed their revenue target will be rewarded, and however, cautioned that any officer who could not achieve his/her targets might have their appointments terminated.
Mrs Adjabeng again cautioned the revenue collectors the temptation of withholding monies collected and directed that all monies collected should be accounted for within 24 hours of receipt.
Revenue officers also took turns to address their concerns including challenges they face in the course of their duties. Management however, pledged to address their concerns as early as possible to enable give off their best.
