The Health Directorate is the department responsible for the delivering of health care services in the Municipality. The directorate started operating on 12th October, 2012.

The goal of the department is to ensure affordable, equitable, easily accessible and Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the municipality.

Objectives

The department of Health has its main focus and theme to be the ability to:

• Bridge the equity gaps in geographical access to health services
• Ensure sustainable financing for health care delivery and financial protection for the poor
• Improve efficiency in governance and management of the health system
• Improve quality of health service delivery including mental health
• Enhance the national capacity for the attainment of the health related MDGs and sustain the gains
• Intensify prevention and control of non-communicable disease and other communicable diseases

The core mandate of the department is to provide and prudently manage comprehensive and accessible healthy service with special emphasis on primary health care in accordance with approved national policies.

The key functions that the department is expected to execute are:

• Promote healthy lifestyles and Environment
• Improve on disease surveillance and control including Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs)
• Strengthen Public Health and Clinical Care collaboration
• Strengthen Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) services
• Improve on malaria diagnosis and management
• Strengthen staff appraisal systems
• Promote prudent financial management/monitoring
• Improve on Services Delivery
• Strengthen collaboration with partners and other stakeholders
