The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly has embarked on a massive environmental cleanliness in tune with the National Sanitation Day being observed across the country on every first Saturday of the month, held on October 4, 2025.
The exercise which started at 6am and ended after 10am, saw cleaning activities such as desilting, dredging, and weeding among others being undertaken.
The areas cleaned stretched from Atomic Junction to Ritz Junction, Central Business District and the main market and its environs.
The clean-up exercise enjoyed high participation from market women and traders, staff members, assembly members, residents, public-spirited individuals, and the general public.
Also drafted in the exercise were waste management companies such as City Professional Managers and Zoom lion.
At specific locations, some traders and members of the public exhibited high enthusiasm in the delivery of work, receiving commendation from the MCE.
All shops were closed in compliance with an earlier directive to that effect, compelling shop owners to join in the exercise.
To make the exercise achieve maximum results, the assembly provided tools and logistics which facilitated the success of the exercise.
Giving the exercise momentum, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ibrahim Faila Fuseini moved from one location to the other prevailing on bystanders to avail themselves of the exercise while providing occasional physical support to facilitate the smooth execution of the exercise.
He urged the people to get involved in the exercise to achieve the expected outcome, adding that the refuse was generated by themselves and it would be morally inappropriate for them to sit aloof for somebody to do the work on their behalf.
He said this was a national exercise which has come to stay, as such all hands must be on deck to make it successful since it was a shared responsibility.
The MCE cautioned traders to be careful not to throw rubbish around indiscriminately, adding that all offenders would be dealt with by the law if they were caught by environmental taskforce.
