Qatar Foundation Commences Major Education and Health Infrastructure Project in Madina

The La Nkwantanang–Madina Municipal Assembly has witnessed the official commencement of a major infrastructure project at Babayara Basic School, following a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a 12-unit classroom block, teachers’ accommodation and a fully equipped clinic.

The project, funded by the Qatar Foundation, is designed to significantly enhance teaching, learning and healthcare services within the school and its surrounding community.

The proposed classroom facility will include a modern library, a staff common room, a dining area, storage facilities and an office for the headteacher. The clinic component will comprise an out-patient department (OPD), male and female wards, a quarantine section, pharmacy, laboratory, consulting rooms and support spaces to improve access to basic healthcare for pupils and staff.

In addition, a mosque will be constructed to provide a place of worship for Muslim students and serve the wider community.

Addressing participants at the ceremony, the Country Director of the Qatar Foundation, Mr. Hassan Ali Owda, described the initiative as a reflection of the enduring partnership between the Foundation and the Municipality. He noted that the Foundation draws inspiration from the humanitarian legacy of Prophet Mohammed, particularly his foundational role in building the historic city of Medina, and seeks to replicate such impactful community-centered development wherever it operates.

Mr. Owda praised the Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Faila, for his visionary leadership and reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting underserved communities.

Sheikh Turki Almarri, Professor at Qatar University, led prayers for divine guidance, peace and unity for the Madina community, urging residents to support initiatives that promote development and social harmony.

In his remarks, the Municipal Chief Executive expressed profound appreciation to the Qatar Foundation for selecting Madina as a beneficiary of the project. He assured that the Assembly would ensure proper management and maintenance of the facilities upon completion.

He further emphasized that the mosque and other facilities would not only meet physical needs but also strengthen community bonds and promote moral and spiritual growth.

The Paramount Chief of Madina, Alhaji Amadu Baba Seidu, also lauded the Foundation for its intervention, describing the project as a major boost to education and healthcare delivery in the municipality.

The project is expected to be completed within six months.
