LA NKWANTANANG-MADINA MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HOSTS SUCCESSFUL WEAR GHANA FESTIVAL 2026

The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly successfully organized the 2026 edition of the Wear Ghana Festival (WEGAFEST) on 26th March, 2026 at the forecourt of the Assembly.

The Wear Ghana Festival is an annual cultural initiative aimed at promoting Ghanaian identity and heritage. It encourages the wearing of Ghanaian fabrics, the use of local languages, appreciation of traditional foods, respect for elders, and educational tours that broaden students’ perspectives.

This year’s theme, “Wear Ghana, Eat Ghana, Speak Ghana, Tour Ghana”, reflects a strong call for citizens—especially the youth—to embrace and celebrate Ghanaian culture in all its forms. The festival’s motto, “Creativity is Our Hallmark,” highlights the importance of innovation rooted in tradition.

The event brought together Chiefs and Elders, students from various schools, Assembly Members, Government Appointees, staff of the Assembly, and representatives from the Ghana Tourism Authority and the National Commission on Culture, including the Greater Accra Regional Directorate.

Although the Municipal Chief Executive, Ibrahim Faila Fuseini, and the Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu, were engaged in official duties at the State House, their financial support played a key role in the successful organization of the festival.

The event featured vibrant cultural displays, including traditional dances, poetry recitals, appellations, and drama performances by school children, all of which showcased exceptional talent and creativity.

Patrons were thrilled by a lively performance from renowned traditional music artist Sherifa Gunu, alongside captivating performances by the Amammere Mma traditional music and dance group.

Participants and invited guests were also treated to a variety of local refreshments, including traditional foods, meat pies, yoghurt, water, and drinks.

The Assembly remains committed to promoting Ghanaian culture and values, especially among the younger generation, through impactful initiatives such as WEGAFEST.
