The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey sets his ‘’Make Accra work’’ agenda by visiting Central Business Area of La Nkwantanang Madina Municipality to witness and inspect the ongoing demolishing exercise to clear off traders who have illegally taken over the pavements and footbridges.
The working visit undertaken by the Regional Minister, Hon. Quartey was in support of the Assembly’s initiative of getting rid of structures on the shoulders of roads, clear traders who obstruct pedestrian movement off the pavements and allow for the free flow of vehicular traffic.
The first point of call for the Minister and his team was the Madina Zongo Junction. It was observed that most traders had packed their goods off the pavements and the footbridges. The Minister interacted with okada riders who park right under a traffic light hence restricts the flow of vehicular traffic and assured them of a better parking lot. He therefore tasked the Municipal Chief Executive, Madam Jennifer Dede Adjabeng to do all within her means to get them a safe place for parking. Hon. Quartey advised them to wear their helmets as a road safety precaution measure.
Speaking to some women at the Redco market, the Minister encouraged them to move their wares to the allocated place at absolutely no cost.
‘’we are not saying people should not make a living to fend for themselves, but they should do so within the confines of the law, selling by the roadside is very dangerous because a car can veer off the road anytime and who knows .I am appealing to all of us here to move to this place that has been provided’’ he said.
Addressing the media, the Regional Minister revealed that plans were underway for the construction of sheds and other facilities at the allocated place to avoid all forms of excuses.
