The La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Assembly in collaboration with Zoom lion Ghana Ltd has organised a massive clean-up exercise at Madina Zongo Junction in Greater Accra on Friday, June 3, 2022.
The event which formed part of activities marking the World Environment Day was held under the theme “Only one earth, making Ghana clean, everyone’s responsibility.”
The exercise was attended by security agencies, such as prison service, armed forces, and officials from the Municipal Environmental Health Unit and staff from the Zoom lion Ghana Limited.
The three and half hours exercise saw the desilting of gutters, clearing of weeds and the removal of debris from the road side along the Atomic Junction to Ritz Junction stretch of the Legon – Aburi Highway.
Speaking at the end of the exercise, the Municipal Coordinating Director of the Assembly, Madam Kwesiwa Kyei said the exercise was very much important as it would help get rid of refuse in the central business area of the municipality.
She said this year’s theme was very much appropriate in the sense that we have only one earth and therefore it behoves on us to ensure that our environment is always kept clean.
The Municipal Coordinating Director expressed her gratitude for the turnout and assured that, the Assembly is ever ready to partner stakeholders to protect and preserve the environment
Celebrated globally on June 5 annually, the day is set aside by the United Nations (UN) to inspire worldwide awareness and action to protect the environment.
