The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Health Directorate has organised a training for social mobilizers for the upcoming nOPV2 Campaign on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at the Conference room of the Municipal Assembly. The vaccination has been necessitated after three recent outbreaks of the poliovirus in Asokore Mampong and the Northern part of Ghana.
The nOVP2 is a modified version of the type 2 monovalent OPV which has the potential to be a significant tool to help stop the outbreak of poliovirus more sustainably.
Speaking at the programme, the Municipal Health Director, Dr. Mrs. Priscilla Anima Poku explained that the house to house vaccination which is set to begin on Thursday, 1st September and end on Sunday, 4th September, 2022 is targeted at vaccinating 46,216 children under 5 years within the municipality.
She urged the mobilizers, supervisors, vaccinators and volunteers present to be advocates for the campaign anywhere they found themselves.
Dr. Mrs. Poku emphasised the need for parents and guardians to avail their wards under 5 years to be vaccinated to ensure a high level of protection from paralysis and help reduce further spread of the virus.
“This dose is going to boost the child’s immunity to be fully protected against the poliovirus, so I am encouraging all parents to make sure their wards are vaccinated” She added.
