The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly has held a day’s community engagement with residents of Teiman Palm Hill Association Members to explain processes of permit acquisition to residents following a rise in construction projects in the area.
The meeting which was held at the instance of members of the Association was also to appeal to the assembly to identify and demolish illegal structures in the community which continues to pose a lot of inconvenience to residents. The meeting took place on Sunday, June 16, 2024.
In separate letters addressed to the assembly earlier on different occasions requesting the assembly to engage them and signed by its chairman, Mr. Enoch Addo hinted that unauthorized structures on the Palm Hill main road have encroached the road which continue to hinder the construction of gutters.
It said the Palm Hill community was located at the foot of the mountain, as such anytime it rains the community gets flooded due to running water coming from the mountains.
In an address, the Municipal Development Officer, Mr. Frederick Asiama emphasized that before the assembly embarks on any project with the municipality, it embarks on a stakeholder’s engagement to ensure that all concerned stakeholders are informed while permitting all to make inputs.
He said the meeting was to address unauthorized structures in the area, the issue of flooding and the acquisition of permit.
In an open forum, the chairman of the association said the association have upgraded significant portions of the road using funds from its own coffers to the tune of GHS 100,000.
He therefore called on the assembly to expedite action on the demolishing exercise to pave way for the construction of gutters and other trunk roads, adding that this would curb future flooding incidents.
