The La Nkwantanang Madina-Municipal Assembly (LaNMMA) has feted about a thousand aged persons as part of its 12 year anniversary celebration at the forecourt of the assembly at Madina Social Welfare on Friday, June 28, 2024.
The event was made an integral part of the celebration in view of the instrumental role played by the aged in society and the life of the assembly.
In a speech, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Dede Adjabeng said twelve years ago, on March 15, 2012, the LaNMMA was carved out of the GA East Municipal Assembly and subsequently inaugurated on 24th June, 2012.
She said the creation of LaNMMA was considered by many as a further step in the country’s efforts to deepen decentralization and bring decision-making and essential services closer to the doorstep of the people.
The MCE said right from its inception in 2012, the assembly has been presented with a myriad of development potentials and challenges, adding that the latter arose out of service pressure owing to increased urbanization.
According to her, with a skeletal staff of about 20 and a handful of logistics handed by the Mother Assembly, GA East Municipal Assembly, the LaNMMA began operation from the Madina Zonal Council Office.
