In what could be described in simple terms as a fierce contest, the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly has confirmed the nomination of Ibrahim Faila Fuseini as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
At the confirmation ceremony on Monday, May 5, 2025 all 20 Assembly members constituting13 elected and 7 government appointees were present.
The Municipal Electoral Commissioner, Madam Lilian Oye Asare explained the rules governing the voting process in respect of the confirmation exercise. She said for the nominee to be declared winner, he must poll 2/3 of the votes of assembly members present.
After the first round of voting, the President’s nominee secured 13 YES votes and 7 NO votes, which falls short of the 14 plus votes required for the nominee to be declared the winner.
The session had to go for a short break and upon resumption from recess, the polls was reopened and at the end of polling, the nominee received an overwhelming endorsement by the house garnering a hundred percent of total votes cast.
The Electoral Commissioner thus declared the nominee as confirmed for the position. He was immediately sworn into office by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Madam Linda Ocloo.
In his acceptance speech, the new MCE pledged to run an open administration through quarterly town hall meetings, regular consultations with assembly members and a 24-hour feedback platform.
He said his administration would practice inclusive governance adding that no community would be left behind.
Ibrahim Fuseini outlined some of the challenges in the area to be addressed as roads and drainage, conditions in public basic schools, water and sanitation among others.
In a related development, Mr. Ibrahim Abdul Razak has been elected by the Assembly as the new Presiding Member for the assembly.
Mr. Razak who stood for the position uncontested is the elected Assembly Member for Madina West. He was also sworn into office by her Worship Rosemary Abena Gyimah of Madina court one.
She administered the Oaths of office, secrecy and allegiance to the newly elected Presiding Member.
