As part of series to educate school children about dangers of drug abuse, the Narcotics Control Commission on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 sensitised learners at St. Peters Lutheran School at Madina in Accra on misuse of drugs and their dangers.
Rev. Shadrack Yeboah explained the definition of drugs and how some category of drugs, such as weed (marijuana) and cocaine are illegal.
He briefly explained the history of some drugs, stating that cocaine is mainly grown in parts of South America.
Also he explained the different ways people try to smuggle drugs avoid being caught, including hiding them in hair products, swallowing them, or laundering them through illegal means.
Rev. Yeboah made it clear that these drugs are illegal because of their harmful side effects.
He cited the example of red tramadol and its dangerous side effects, such as unconsciousness, extreme weight loss, weakness and low immunity.
The children were also taught what drug abuse means and how drugs can be misused.
The commission left some books on narcotics for the children to read and learn more about drug prevention.
