The Hon. Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the La Nkwantanang–Madina Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Fusseini Faila, has met with former revenue collectors who previously worked under the Assembly’s terminated revenue contractor.
The meeting was convened following reports that some individuals were allegedly still operating within the markets and collecting revenue from traders despite the termination of the contractor’s agreement.
Addressing the group, the Hon. MCE clarified the Assembly’s position regarding the termination and firmly warned that any person found illegally collecting revenue will face prosecution and possible imprisonment. He emphasized that the Assembly will not tolerate unauthorized collections, as such actions undermine transparency, accountability, and lawful revenue administration.
Hon. Alhaji Faila further announced that new measures will soon be implemented to improve revenue mobilization, enhance supervision, and ensure proper identification and visibility of authorized personnel on the ground.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for the former collectors to express their concerns. Some appealed to the Assembly for possible re-engagement, noting that they have been out of work since the termination of the previous contractor. Others raised issues relating to commissions, unpaid salaries, portions of the main market facility, and boundary concerns involving neighboring jurisdictions such as Ga East and Adentan.
In his closing remarks, the Hon. MCE urged all parties to act responsibly and cooperate with the Assembly to safeguard public interest. He assured them that the Assembly remains committed to fairness, lawful processes, and the overall development of the municipality.
