La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Holds Local Dialect and Made- In- Ghana Festival.

The La- Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Assembly has held a local dialect and Made- in Ghana Festival at the premises of the assembly on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

The event, brought together educators, students, and cultural groups in a vibrant celebration of identity and heritage.

It was on the theme “My mother tongue, my pride”

In an address, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Faila Fusein said our mother tongue is more than just a language, emphasizing that it is the heartbeat of our culture, identity and heritage.

“As a Municipality, we remain committed to prompting literacy in both English and our indigenous languages because we believe that language is a bridge to opportunity”, he stressed.

According to him, the government of Ghana has designated every Wednesday as “Fugu Day”, a day set aside to encourage Ghanaians to proudly wear our traditional attire, particularly “Fugu”, as a symbol of cultural pride and support for local industries.

He explained that, when we choose to wear Ghanaian and African – made garments, we are doing more than dressing beautifully, adding “we are supporting our weavers, designers, tailors and local entrepreneurs”.

“Let us therefore commit not only to reading in our mother tongues but also to living our culture boldly; speaking it, wearing it and promoting it”.

The MP for the area, Hon. Francis Xavier Sosu shared his personal journey, recalling how participating in a GA poetry competition shaped his confidence and career. He therefore urged young people to embrace their mother tongue.

The school children present thrilled the audience with dancing, poem recitals, and singing in four local dialects- Akuapem Twi, Asante Twi, GA and Ewe
