The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly has organised a stakeholder consultation meeting ahead of an upcoming municipal wide clean up exercise on Tuesday, 23rd August, 2022.
The municipal wide exercise which is scheduled on Thursday, 25th of August, 2022, forms part the enforcement of the “Operation Clean Your Frontage” campaign introduced by the Greater Accra Regional Minister.
Speaking at the meeting, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Joseph Quarcoe, said the exercise was based on a directive from the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), and it was expected all residents turn out in their numbers for a successful exercise.
According to the new sanitation bye-laws, the Assembly was no longer responsible for the collection of refuse gathered as a results of such clean up exercises and the onus lies on landlords, tenants and occupants of various properties.
On her part, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Abena Kwesiwa Kyei took turn to address some other concerns raised by the stakeholders and by so doing ensured them of the Assembly’s commitment towards finding a lasting solution to sanitation issues in the municipality.
She also added that sanitation is a collective responsibility so citizens have key roles to play if the “Operation Clean Your Frontage” has to come good.
Stakeholders at the meeting included representatives of the Traditional Council, Assemblymen, Religious Leaders, Market Queens and transport unions were educated on the new sanitation bye-laws under the operation clean your frontage.
