The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Benito Owusu Bio has touted the Government’s agenda for fighting climate change with the Green Ghana Project. He said President Nana Akufo-Addo was fully committed to fighting deforestation and forest degradation hence the introduction of the Green Ghana Day initiative.
According to the Deputy Minister, since the Green Ghana intervention by government in 2021, over 30 million trees have been planted and entreated members of the Rotary Club to join the Ministry and it’s agencies on Friday, June 9, in the nationwide tree planting exercise to be led by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
He assured the club of the Ministry’s readiness to support any initiative that sought to promote government’s afforestation drive. Mr. Bio made this assertion on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 when he joined the Rotary Club to launch the 1 Rotarian 1 Tree initiative under the District 9102 Green Project at the Pantang Hospital.
The Chief Executive Officer for La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly, Mrs. Jennifer Dede Adjabeng thanked the Rotary Club for choosing and undertaking such an important initiative at the Pantang Hospital which falls under her jurisdiction. She promised to work closely with the hospital to consciously nurture the trees.
For his part, the District 9102 Governor, Mr. Victor Yaw Asante said one key role of the Rotary Club was to transform communities and live as the oldest humanitarian institution.
He said, it was their responsibility to deal with some challenges of the environment through planting of trees, adding that, “the club would continue to do its best to protect the environment and make it a better place for the future.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Victor Yaw Asante who doubles as the Managing Director/CEO of FNB Bank Ghana, led the Bank to present a cheque of 20,000 Ghana Cedis to support the government’s afforestation agenda.
The Green project of the Rotary Club is targeting to plant over a hundred thousand trees and would do that in partnership with the Forestry Commission, the Pantang Hospital and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
