Green Ghana: Residents Urged To Own Tree Planting Exercise

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly, Hon. Jennifer Dede Adjabeng led a team of personnel from the Assembly on Friday, June 9, 2023 to launch this year’s Green Ghana Day with a call on residents to own the exercise.

The tree-planting exercise started at the Assembly’s premises where the MCE planted the first seedling of a coconut. The team proceeded to Action Progressive Institute and ended at Presec Basic School for the tree-planting exercise.

It is expected that about one thousand seedlings would be planted by the Assembly this year. Tree seedlings planted during the exercise included mango, coconut, pear and palm fruits.

Interacting with the media, Hon Adjabeng admonished residents to develop cultural practices to keenly monitor the seedlings to sustain their growth.

She said all and sundry stands to benefit from effective monitoring of the growth of the seedlings, adding that trees were indispensable to human existence.

The MCE said, the benefits to be derived from the exercise were numerous, some of which include serving as windbreaks, minimizing erosion, purification of the air among others.

Hon. Adjabeng indicated that this year, she would prioritize the nurturing and monitoring of the seedlings herself to ensure a success story a year from now.

This year, an added dimension was that the Assembly targeted institutions for easy monitoring of the progress of the seedling.
