Onua FM, a brand of Media General Group Limited, a multimedia organization in Accra have organized a massive clean-up exercise at Madina Zongo Junction in collaboration with La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly (LaNMMA) and Zoomlion with the active support of the Bus Stop Boys, a youthful group of sanitation activists.
The initiative was under the three pronged agenda of Sanitation, Health and Empowerment (SHE) of Onua FM, a programme devised to better the lot of various environment.
The exercise which took place on Friday, February 14, was the second occasion running, and was held at Madina Zongo Junction by virtue of its state as a bee-hive of human activity in connection with the existence of a wide expanse of market area.
The over 3-hour exercise saw the active participation of all stakeholders including traders at the market who cleaned from Madina Zongo Junction to the Police station stretch desilting gutters, removing debris and sweeping the streets.
In a media engagement, the General Manager of Onua FM said the issue of proper sanitation management was crucial to human society especially places such as markets where people are crowded engaging in various commercial activities.
He said his outfit was committed to joining forces with relevant entities and stakeholders to champion a common cause for the general good of society and called for all- hands-on deck.
Mr. Daniel Tetteh Annang, the Acting Municipal Environmental Officer of LaNMMA commended Onua FM for the initiative which would go a long way to address the recurrent menace of the canker of fifth in the city.
According to him, the assembly would continue to partner Onua FM to ensure the success of the exercise anytime it would be held within its jurisdiction.
